This first book of microbiology takes children on a fun learning journey down the microscope lens, gently presenting some types of microorganism and linked concepts. Ten zany microbial characters, and their friends, can be found among the colourful swirling slide samples depicted in the vibrant illustrations.

A kaleidoscopic learning journey to inspire bright sparks and budding scientists everywhere!

Wonderful World of the Small is a playful introduction to the fascinating hidden kingdom around us.

About the authors: Lindsey studied microbiology at Dundee University and has a doctorate in fungal genetics from the University of St Andrews. As a research scientist she spent time in several laboratories, including the former Scottish Crop Research Institute and the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre, working with an eclectic variety of microorganisms, from plant parasitic nematodes to human papillomavirus. Since moving away from the bench, her focus is now as a writer and scientific editor. Living on the east coast of Scotland, she has three children and is passionate about sharing her knowledge and love of science with the next generation.

Vivien is an animation graduate from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in the Hungarian capital, Budapest. After completing her studies, she moved to the island of Bali, Indonesia, to further explore her passion for visual arts and experiment with different techniques and mediums. She became drawn to illustration as a new way to fulfil her interest in storytelling and to create new worlds, places and characters, and watch them come alive. Taking inspiration from all living things, she tries to capture the beautiful little moments of life in her art.
